Pompompurin Cafe Singapore

Pompompurin cafe is located on the 4th floor of Ochard Central. The overall setting is very cute. To be honest, I do not know anything about Pompompurin. What attracted me to try was the novelty and cuteness.
When I first got there, there was a queue at the entrance. It was't a really long queue but my friend, Nicole, and I waited for almost 50 minutes just to get to our seat.

The entrance

When it was almost our turn to be ushered in, the lady handed us the menu.

The menu

The menu looks so cute but the number of item on it is very limited. There are only a few choices and the dished are pretty pricey (kinda expected).

When it was our turn, the lady ushered us to a table. Upon entering, you start to realise why it took you so long just to get a seat. The whole area is so small! They have a mini gift shop located beside the cashier. There are booth seats (called Tomodachi House) and normal table seats available. We requested to sit in the Tomodachi House.

We ordered two pastas (Spaghetti Napolitana and Mushroom & Bacon Carbonara) and one curry rice (Pompompurin's Beef Stroganoff). The lady who took our order was totally judging us! The reason we ordered 3 mains was, we knew that we wouldn't be coming back again since themed cafe food are usually not that good as their selling point is the theme itself. So we decided to "go big or go home" and ordered 3 mains as we couldn't decide between these three.

Spaghetti Napolitana

The Spaghetti Napolitana is a tomato-based pasta served with salsa, omelette with vegetable and 2 slices of baguette. It's not bad but I'm not a fan of tomato-based pasta.

Mushroom & Bacon Carbonara

This is the classic cream-based pasta, Carbonara, with Mushroom and Bacon. For this, it is served with onion rings instead of the vegetable omelette. I prefer my pasta to be flooded with sauce (yes, I like a lot a lot of sauce and yes, I know it's fattening) and this has way too little sauce for my liking. The overall taste is acceptable but I like the onion ring most.
The best part about the pasta is that you are able to keep the pompompurin mug! (They will hand you a new mug during payment) Truthfully, THAT was what made us order two pasta.

Pompompurin's Beef Stroganoff

The rice was shaped like Pompompurin with the beef patty as the beret. Judging for the picture above you are able to see the proportion of rice to meat was WAY off. There rice was clumpy and sticky (weird texture if you ask me) and the curry has a strange smell. It wasn't spicy, as with most Japanese curry.

To be honest, we went in with a super low expectation of the food. To our horror, the food was really bad. It even exceed our expectations (not in the good way). As I would say, 'it only satisfy your eyes'. The only good part about this trip was the free cute mug (which the price was included in the meal). We definitely won't be going back again.
